Expect the stretch of dirt known as Linear Park between Holiday Inn Express and McDonald’s to soon be transformed into a more visibly pleasing walkway paralleling Highway 50.
South Tahoe Public Utility District has agreed to design a drought resistant landscape. The city will incur the costs to maintain it.
A few years ago the now defunct Core 24 Charities worked with STPUD and Nixon’s plumbing to install a water hookup near Tahoe Meadows for irrigation purposes.
When vegetation was first planted there years ago it died because of lack of water.
One of the charity’s endeavors was to revive Linear Park. It gave South Lake Tahoe more than $20,000 for the project. It was not known at last month’s City Council meeting how that money might be used.
The group is also responsible for the numerous daffodils that will soon be popping up near the Washoe woman statue.
Council members just allocated redevelopment funds – about $1,800 – to create a plaque explaining what the Washoe woman statue is all about. Look for it this summer. However, one council member thinks the money should come from the five of them being in a dunking booth during the Sept. 12 Bijou Bash.
