Simple economics – that’s why Horizon’s Aspen Tower is closed more than it is open. By closing off the Aspen Tower less money is spent on utilities, no maids are working in that section and costs are cut in other ways.
People aren’t booking enough rooms at the Stateline hotel-casino, so those 200-plus rooms are not available most nights.
“We will open it when we need it. It’s not closed like we’ve taken the furniture out,” said Tom Davis, marketing manager for Horizon and MontBleu. “If we get busy, we will open it.”
Davis said years ago the hotel had the same open-close policy with the Aspen Tower.
With people making reservations closer to the arrival date, it was not known if it would be opened for the long Valentine’s-Presidents weekend. It was not open Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. Davis said the hotel was busy during the December holidays.
The Horizon has 300 rooms in the main part of the hotel and can refer people to the 400-room MontBleu across the street, which is owned by the same company, if more rooms are needed.
