USFS needs Alpine County residents

Members Needed for Resource Advisory Committee in Alpine CountyMarkleeville, CA…Alpine County and the Forest Service are seeking nominees for a 15-member Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) to recommend projects and funding for watershed restoration, road and facility maintenance, and forest health on the Humboldt-Toiyabe. Members of a RAC work in a collaborative nature to provide advice and recommendations to the Forest Service that are consistent with Title II of the reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 as amended. (To learn more about Secure Rural Schools, go to the Forest’s website, http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/htnf/. Go to the far-right column, and look for the heading labeled “Secure Rural Schools”). Current vacancies exist in all three categories that include industry, environmental groups, recreation groups, elected officials, and local residents (see Categories A, B, and C) on the following page. Nominees will be evaluated based on their training and experience working with the interest they represent, their knowledge of Alpine County, their demonstrated commitment to collaborative decision-making, and their contribution to the balance and diversity of the RAC. RAC members: Must reside within the State of California and to the extent practicable, within Alpine County; Must be able to commit the time necessary to carry out the committee responsibilities of at least several meetings each year; Will be officially appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture for a term of four years; and, Will not receive compensation.
