Bill Clinton on board for Tahoe Summit
Posted: 8/2/2007
Former President Bill Clinton will join other federal, state and local officials at this year’s annual Tahoe Summit, U.S. Sen. Harry Reid’s office announced Thursday.
Clinton and then-Vice President Al Gore attended the first forum organized by Reid, now Senate majority leader, in 1997 to bring national attention to the ecological problems that threaten to dull Lake Tahoe’s famed clarity.
At that summit, Clinton signed an executive order recognizing Lake Tahoe as an area of national concern and pledged federal money to help address the Tahoe Basin’s environmental woes.
This will be the forum’s 10th anniversary.
Others scheduled to attend the Aug. 17 forum at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village include Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, and former U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan, also a former Nevada governor.
