Gail Kimbell, chief of the U.S. Forest Service, is in South Lake Tahoe this morning touring the area burned during the Angora Fire.

Kimbell is being brief on the effectiveness of forest treatment projects conducted in the area prior to the fire. The treatment includes removing dead trees and thinning out stands of trees.

Forest Service experts say the treatments acted as intended in reducing the intensity of the fire and saving many homes.

The Angora Fire, sparked June 24 by an illegal campfire, destroyed 254 homes.

Kimbell is in Lake Tahoe for the 10th annual Lake Tahoe Forum, which is being attended by former President Bill Clinton.
