SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- El Dorado County Animal Services and the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and SPCA will sponsor a Mobile Animal Adoptions event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in South Lake Tahoe.
Potential adoptive families can get acquainted with animals that need homes. The society's mobile adoption trailer will be set up at 1221 Emerald Bay Road, behind Snowshoe Thompson Ski Rental.
"The adoption event will showcase cats and dogs from the El Dorado County Animal Shelter that are recent victims of circumstances beyond their control," Dawn Armstrong, Lake Tahoe Humane Society executive director, said in a news release. "Most of the animals were brought to the shelter because their owners lost jobs or homes. Others got lost and were never reunited with their families."
A pet chosen through the mobile adoption event will be put on hold while the process is completed at the El Dorado County Animal Shelter in Meyers. In many cases, the animals can go to their new homes the same day.
All pets offered for adoption at the event will have received their vaccinations and microchip and will have been spayed or neutered and temperament tested, according to Lt. Robert Gerat, supervising animal services officer.
For more information about the event, call the Lake Tahoe Humane Society, (530) 542-2857. Information about El Dorado County Animal Services, including shelter location and hours of operation, is available on the Web site at www.edcgov.us/animalservices, or by calling (530) 573-7925.
