Event -- Relay for Life on South Shore, Aug. 8-9

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
READY, SET, RELAY FOR LIFE THIS WEEKEND, AUGUST 8-9

Aug. 5, 2009 (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev.) The South Lake Tahoe’s Relay For Life is ready to hit the ground running – or walking – to celebrate those who’ve beaten cancer, remember those we’ve lost to cancer and fight back against this disease that takes too much. The all-night party begins Aug. 8 at 4 p.m. at Kahle Community Park. Live music, including Lavish Green – a local favorite, karaoke, fire dancers, dunk tank donated by the Children’s Museum of Carson City, food, games and fundraisers will continue throughout the night.

The Pre-party is at Fox and Hound Friday, Aug. 7, from 7 p.m. – close, with food, drinks and live music from Deep Fyed Mojo. Erik Watada State Farm Agency team arranged for 10 percent of all sales during the Pre-party to be donated to Relay For Life

The committee has reached their goal of 40 registered teams and hopes to surpass it and raise more than $100,000 in the fight against cancer. Heading into the event the community has raised more than $20,000. Donations are collected on site with all types of unique fundraisers; in fact, Tahoe’s relay raises most of the funds that day, making our relay the top event in the northwest based on our size of the community. Teams can raise money until the end of August that count toward this year’s fundraising goals.

2009 marks the 25th Anniversary for Relay for Life events, and South Tahoe is celebrating its 4th Annual. The all-night event will be at Kahle Community Park Sat. Aug. 8, beginning at 4 p.m., concluding around 7 a.m. on Aug. 9. Teams, 10-15 members, take turns walking around the track throughout the event to symbolize that cancer never sleeps. Live music, food, activities, Canine For a Cure Dog Walk, Luminaria ceremony to remember those who we’ve lost to cancer and more are part of the event.
