Sierra-at-Tahoe helps out, July 5

Help Begins at Home...

Our hearts and prayers go out to our friends and family who have been affected by the recent Angora Fire near South Lake Tahoe. Here at Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort, we have several employees whose homes were completely devastated in the fire. In the last week, Sierra™ Resort has reached out to those employees, putting $15,000 in cash directly into their hands to help them begin recovering what they lost. Many of our employees have also donated clothing and other items, helped families find a place to temporarily stay, or opened their own homes to friends and family who have suffered unimaginable losses.

In conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, Sierra Resort has reached out to the greater community by offering free storage of boats, RVs, snowmobiles, motorcycles and any other towable assets that evacuees need a place to store. During the evacuation, our sister resort, Northstar-at-Tahoe™ Resort, provided lodging for the employees and guests of Stanford Camp, located near the fire at Fallen Leaf Lake. Several Sierra Resort employees spend their summer working for the Lake Valley Fire Protection District and as such have been on the front line of the fire fighting to save their community.

The Sierra-at-Tahoe community has always been a caring group that acts as a family. Many of you have indicated that you want to help but are not sure where to turn. Sierra Resort and News10 have joined together to offer our family a way to help victims of the Angora Fire. Your donations will go directly to two funds set up in the wake of the disaster. Locals for Locals is a non-profit fund that will offer long-term assistance to year-round residents who are victims of the fire. Keep Tahoe Safe with Defensible Space is a non-profit fund that will offer support for defensible space education and implementation programs to ensure that another fire does not have the same devastating impact.

Additionally, Sierra Resort will be purchasing grocery gift cards for distribution straight into the hands of friends and family of Sierra who have lost their homes. If you would like to contribute, please send a check made out to:

Thank you for the outpouring of support. Your emails, phone calls and inquiries have buoyed us all over the past week and we appreciate knowing that our family extends far beyond our own town. Your generosity and caring during this time is what makes the Sierra community special.
